Old boys and new gather for annual Saltus ceremony
services business will speak at the school's graduation this Friday.
Peter Durhager, president of Logic Communications Ltd., will address some 400 senior students, including the Saltus Graduate Year (SGY) 1998 graduating class of 61 students, during the annual Founder's Day and Graduation Ceremony at the Anglican Cathedral.
The ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m., will follow the school's yearly tribute to its founder, Samuel Saltus, at his grave site in St. John's Church, Pembroke at 10 a.m. Wreathes will be placed on Saltus' tomb.
According to Saltus headmaster Trevor Rowell, this year's ceremony will also include special recognition of the school's World War II era "Old Boys'' who are having a reunion as part of the Founder's Day activities.
"Prior to the wreath-laying, there will be a short memorial service at St.
John's Church to honour those Saltus men who died in or who fought in World War II,'' Mr. Rowell said, "and the reunion attendees will be our honoured guests at the Cathedral graduation exercise.'' "Student musicians will be playing wartime `Big Band' and `Swing' numbers,'' he added, "so there will be a good amount of nostalgia and tradition to blend with our annual send-off to the SGY graduates as they start on their individual paths to the future.'' Mr. Durhager is expected to share personal experiences in making his educational and career choices, and to offer insights about his successful rise to the head of Logic Communications Ltd.
The traditional cricket match between Saltus "Old Boys'' and current students will follow the Founder's Day Service. It will begin at 2 p.m. on the school field.
