hands on -- from fish fillets to a priest's car -- during a stealing rampage through Hamilton Parish this summer.

Smith, 24, of St. George's, yesterday pleaded guilty in Supreme Court to 19 counts of breaking into homes and businesses on North Shore Road between June 3 and 31.

But his co-defendant, Leonard D. Wilson, 32, of Pembroke, denied all 19 counts.

The Supreme Court heard during the monthly arraignments session that Smith stole thousands of dollars worth of food, jewellery, electronics, museum exhibits, gas cylinders, clothes, binoculars, diving knives, cash and cars.

Smith was charged with committing the crimes while being concerned together with Wilson.

Smith admitted breaking into three homes in Hamilton Parish on the night of June 3 and stealing more than $400 in cash and $1,700 worth of gold bracelets and rings. Some time between June 4 and 18 he broke into a Smith's Parish woman's house and stole a Sony CD player and walkman valued at $450.

On the night of June 8, he broke into Bailey's Ice Cream Parlour where he stole food and $60 cash, and Island Quarry where he stole two cylinders of gas and oxygen worth more than $4,000.

On June 11 he broke into the Perfume Factory in the day. Between June 15 and 17 he broke into the Bermuda Railway Museum and stole $3,200 worth of goods, Dot and Andy's where he stole fish fillets, mussels, cod and a cassette player.

Between June 17 and 21, he broke into a man's house and stole more than $4,000 worth of gold rings, necklaces and a pair of binoculars.

He stole Hamilton Parish resident Mr. Colin Curtis' car on June 22. On June 24 he broke into a man's house and stole $3,000 cash.

On June 27 he broke into the Rev. Howard Dill's house and stole $150 cash and then the church office where he stole more than $2,000 in cash and goods in a safe. He then drove away in Mr. Dill's car.

In the final days of his stealing spree, he broke into two women's homes and stole gold jewellery, another pair of binoculars and sunglasses valued at more than $3,000. And on June 31, he broke into the Fantasea dive ship and stole shirts, $200 cash and three diving knives.

Chief Justice the Hon. Mr. Justice Ward remanded Smith in custody and ordered him to reappear for sentencing on December 5.
