*** The Bermuda Progressive Ballroom Dance Group will host its Fifth Annual Pre-Valentine Ball this weekend. Saturday's black tie event will take place at the Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre at the Southampton Princess and will feature the Vic Glazer Quartet. Cocktails will begin at 7 p.m. with dinner being served at 8 p.m. Tickets are $100.
*** The next stop on the Bermuda Youth Library's Read Around the World journey will be the Philippines.
The programme, open to youngsters between the ages of nine and 14, provides the opportunity to experience cultures of different countries around the world.
Parents must register their child for the February 26 `trip' to the Philippines and since space is limited, organisers urge parents to register early.

*** The Somers Lioness Club will host a Pre-Valentines Codfish Breakfast this weekend in Warwick.
Saturday's breakfast will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Scotland Church Hall on Middle Road from 7 to 11 a.m.
For $10 you can enjoy a full breakfast and organisers say that take-outs will be available. Tickets are available from club members.

*** The Bristol Cellar and the Monte Carlo restaurant have joined forces to present `South African Winemaker's Dinner'.
Andre Shearer, director of Cape Classics Ltd. which represents South Africa's leading estates, will be the guest of honour at Saturday's dinner.
The reception will kick off at 7 p.m. with dinner being served at 7.45 p.m.
Reservations for the $98 dinner can be made by calling the Monte Carlo restaurant at 295-5442 or the Bristol Cellar at 238-2200. Reservations confirmed on receipt of a cheque or credit card number. Seating is limited so book early.
