The courts, which will be opened by Senator the Hon. Pamela Gordon at 12.30 p.m. on Friday, are located at HMS Malabar, the Royal Navy's base on Ireland Island.

Money for the courts has been provided by HMS Malabar, the Ministry of Works and Engineering, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Recreation and the West End Development Corporation. They were constructed by the East End Asphalt Company.

Malabar Commanding officer Robin Bawtree said he hoped the courts would encourage the growth of tennis in the West End, especially amongst families and children.
