Police say the man demanded money from an employee at a Glebe Road dry goods store.

But the man is believed to have fled empty-handed after the employee screamed.

A 23-year-old Pembroke man was arrested shortly after Friday afternoon's incident, said Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning.

"Enquiries are under way,'' he added.

Police are also probing a Sunday morning robbery in Southampton in which a local couple were held up at knife point.

The couple were walking along Lighthouse Road at about 2.45 a.m. when a motor cyclist confronted them and demanded cash.

A purse and a small amount of loose cash were handed over to the man who rode off in a northerly direction, said P.c. Venning.

He added the woman broke her wrist during the incident, although the circumstances were unclear.

The Royal Gazette understands the couple had been waiting for a cab after having dinner when they were confronted.

The woman was injured after being pushed over a wall, it is believed.
