Camp-a-rama kids to show off talents

On Saturday, August 8, kids who participated in various Youth, Sports and Recreation camps around the Island will come together to showcase their skills at the annual Camp-a-rama. At Bernard's Park from 6 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. kids will take part in activities including dances choreographed by dance specialist at each of the eight camps. The dances for 1998 focus on the different cultures of Bermuda's people. There will also be the island sounds of calypso and reggae, the unique rhythms of Filipino, Portuguese and Latin music, and the popular beats of British, Canadian and American songs.

Camp-a-rama also features the summer day camp mass choir. This is a selected group of talented students who sing under the direction of musical specialists. Their repertoire includes the theme song for this year "Special Kids, Special People'', and a catch cultural song highlighting Bermuda's traditions and culture called "Traditionally Cultural''. A few of the camps have made some home-made instruments, both general and based on the countries that are being developed in this year's theme. The art display at Camp-a-rama has become increasingly more popular. Spectators can visit the exhibits prior to the song and dance at 5 p.m. The exciting variety of camp culture themes, in combination with a wide portrayal of individual ideas be the art specialist and all camp members, leads to an attractive and original summer day camp art collection. The events at Camp-a-rama are always eagerly anticipated. Not only are children expressing their talents and increasing their self-esteem, but parents, friends and staff members can feel proud of the efforts made by their respective camps and summer day camp as a whole.
