Superintendent Alan Bissell had been standing in as acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for nearly a year.

But yesterday a Police spokesman said that Mr. Bissell has now been confirmed in the post.

The appointment represents a hat trick of promotions for the three senior officers who were serving directly under former Commissioner Colin Coxall.

Promotion Following his departure last October the Island's then number two officer, Jean Jacques Lemay, stepped up to become Commissioner while Assistant Commissioner, Harold Moniz, became Deputy Commissioner.

Originally from the UK, Assistant Commissioner Bissell came to Bermuda in 1965.

In 1971 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In the early 1980s, he was promoted to Inspector and moved to the Police training department. He then became responsible for recruiting and training after his promotion to Chief Inspector in 1986.
