"We've had a lot of calls but most of them were of minor nature,'' a Police spokesman said at midnight. "It's been relatively quiet.'' In most cases, the only things that went bump in the night were airborne eggs and bottles.

A number of motorists reported being pelted in Pembroke, buses earlier in the evening suffered similar fates in Warwick and streets around the Island were strewn with broken glass.

Both Police and Fire Services said that a flare had been thrown into a stockroom at the Elliot School in Devonshire around 8.00 p.m. No fire or damage was reported.

There was also evidence that a Police vehicle that had been parked on Friswells Road for most of the evening had been pelted with beer bottles. The two officers inside, however, refused to comment.
