Over the weekend, questionnaires were sent to the Chamber's 450 local members, quizzing them about Independence and relaxation of foreign exchange and interest rate controls.

"We want to know what kind of position the Chamber should be taking,'' president Mr. Louis Mowbray told The Royal Gazette .

On Independence, the Chamber believes "there is more against it than for it'', due to cost and other concerns, he said.

The international companies division of the Chamber was holding a meeting soon "to get the views of their members before they do any work'' on the Independence issue, he added.

In the House of Assembly on Friday, Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan is to announce plans for a Commission of Inquiry on Independence.

Pre-Budget speculation has centred around relaxation or removal of foreign exchange controls and the lifting of the ceiling on interest rates.
