Ms Gordon in London

the International Maritime Organisation's meeting to discuss protocols for the Convention on the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea.

Ms Gordon, who is accompanied by Permanent Secretary of the Environment Dr.

James Burnett-Herkes, is a member of the UK delegation and is expected to be in attendance until the meeting closes on November 7.

Ms Gordon has travelled to the English capital to seek advice on how to dispose of 165 containers of asbestos, which have been at the centre of a storm of controversy for the past year.

She told The Royal Gazette Bermuda would try to rally support from other small countries who may face similar difficulties in the future.

Government's initial plan to dump the containers into the ocean 18 miles off St. David's stalled when it ran into harsh criticism and negative publicity by groups such Greenpeace.

Government is now studying the option of shipping the asbestos to another jurisdiction which would agree to bury it.
