Athletes prepare for the Italian job
Bermuda's participation in overseas track and field meets continues next month when the World Youth Championships take centre stage in Italy.
Bermuda are sending six athletes to represent the Island.
The meet runs from July 8-12 in the city of Sudtirol with young athletes from around the world competing for top honours in their respective events.
Selected to make the trek to Europe were Ryan Furbert, Kyle Virgil, Henry Stevens-Carty, Shaquille Dill, Shawnae Brangman and Allison Outerbridge.
The team will be departing on Saturday, as they will be participating in a training camp next week.
Furbert will run the 400 metres, Virgil will compete in the 100m and 200m sprints, Stevens-Carty and Dill will participate in the 800m.
Brangman will compete in the 100m and 200m, while Outerbridge will be in the triple jump.
Team manager Gina Evans and coach Gerry Swan will accompany the team.
Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) president Donna Watson is pleased with the recent success by the Island's young athletes and is expecting the same from the latest group about to lace their spikes against the best in the world.
"Each member had to meet the tough qualifying standards that were created by the IAAF World committee to be able to compete in this competition," said Watson.
"The athletes had to be born in 1992 or 1993 to be eligible to compete.
"We are very pleased with the team and congratulate them for making the standards.
"We are hoping for some good performances but this is going to be a tough competition as this event will have competitors of this age group from all around the world."
