BAA suffer home defeat

Finding the net: Donte Brangman was on target for Rangers

BAA suffered their first defeat of the season when Paget Lions beat them 2-0 at Goose Gosling Field to tighten up the promotion race.

Paget scored two late goals with Dion Stovell scoring with a neat finish on a breakaway in the 80th minute before DeMarlo Curtis added the second in stoppage time.

The win moves Paget level on nine points with BAA, while Southampton Rangers also closed the gap on the leaders with a 5-1 win over Somerset Eagles at Southampton Oval.

D’Andre Wainwright gave Eagles the lead in the seventh minute before captain Ezekiel Stoneham equalised in the 45th minute with a penalty.

Shannon Burchall put Rangers ahead 2-1 in the 49th minute before Donte Brangman scored a third in the 65th minute. Isaiah Taylor added to the scoring with two goals in the 66th and 82nd minutes. Rangers, with two wins and two draws, are now the only team in the league unbeaten.

Devonshire Colts beat Ireland Rangers 4-1 at Malabar Field where Teniko Eve netted a hat-trick for Colts and Dominique Lambe scored the other. Ireland Rangers scored a penalty through Daunte Woods to make it 2-1 early in the second half.

St David’s moved into a three-way tie for first place with a close 3-2 win over Wolves at Lord’s, where the visiting side took the lead. Goalkeeper Mikkael Crockwell struck a free kick to equalise before his side took the lead through Nasaje Anderson.

Wolves pulled level before St David’s netted the winner through Franklin Chiroy.

Hamilton Parish and St George’s match at Wellington Oval was postponed.

The match was rescheduled from Saturday, the day of the funeral of Hamilton Parish fan Wilfred “Fly” DeGraffe. The teams made a request to the referee to have the match postponed again yesterday.
