Cruise ship visits mark the start to summer
visitor season shifts into full gear.
Meyer Agencies Ltd. was expecting the cruise ships Horizon and Pacific Princess in Hamilton, and the Royal Princess at Dockyard.
Those arrivals cap those on Monday when Chandris Celebrity Cruise's Meridian arrived with 1,079 passengers in Dockyard from Florida, and Holland America Line's Statendam brought 1,136 passengers to Hamilton from New York.
The Statendam sailed on Monday for San Juan, while the Meridian sailed for Florida yesterday.
Chandris' Horizon , on her first visit of the 1993 season, is in for the day with 1,290 passengers. On a repositioning cruise, she is bound for New York from St. Martin.
The Pacific Princess , owned by Princess Cruises, arrives for the day on the way to the Azores.
The Royal Princess , also owned by Princess, arrives for the day from St.
Thomas with 1,167 passengers before sailing for New York.
Container Ship Management Ltd.'s Oleander arrived in Hamilton on Monday with 159 containers, 26 of which were refrigerated. Also, she discharged six Race Week boats and three trailers containing materials for the Tynes Bay incinerator project. The Oleander sailed for Port Elizabeth on Tuesday morning.
Also calling in the past week were the container ships Somers Isles , Bermuda Islander , and Bold Venture , all handled by Meyer Agencies. The Somers Isles arrived in Hamilton from Florida on Sunday. She discharged 71 containers, five of which were refrigerated, nine boats, and 32 bundles of lumber. She sailed on Monday.
Bermuda Islander arrived from Salem, New Jersey on Tuesday and sailed on Wednesday. She discharged 77 containers, five of which were refrigerated, and one horse box with three horses. She also carried a boat.
The Bold Venture arrived on Monday with about 24 containers for the US Naval Air Station and returned to Norfolk, Virginia.
The privately-owned motor yacht Contico is to arrive at Penno's Wharf to take on bunkers today.
