Limited overs gets nod

Control meeting since last week's AGM as members were brought up to date on the progress of the tours for the 1993 season.

"It was just routine stuff,'' said president Ed Bailey of Tuesday's meeting when the visit by Derbyshire in March, the Pakistanis in May and the West Indies `A' team in June were discussed along with the squad's training trip to Barbados.

"After hearing from Pakistan on Monday the general membership was brought up to date at last night's meeting,'' Bailey explained.

The Youth team will also be travelling to Denmark in July for the International Youth Tournament, which will be hosted by Bermuda in 1997 with the 1995 tournament likely to return to England.

Some minor adjustments have also been made to the schedule for the season to accommodate the late confirmation of the Pakistan team for a two-match tour, with matches that weekend being put back to the end of the season.

With such a heavy programme the board has scrapped the Open League from last season and will concentrate on limited-overs play in preparation of the ICC Trophy in Kenya next February.

After the season ends on September 26 the senior national team members will continue training every Saturday and Sunday in October and the first two weekends in November in preparation of their second trip to Barbados for a training stint in mid-November, by which time the ICC squad will have been finalised.
