The Royal Gazette's survey on Independence was conducted by Urban Associates, a market research consulting firm based in Sharon, Massachusetts.

It began with a series of 614 random telephone interviews amongst Bermuda residents 18 years and older. The sample included both listed and unlisted telephone numbers.

The results were tabulated and weighted to reflect the demographic characteristics of Bermuda as portrayed in the 1991 Census.

The sample identified 484 registered voters. The results based on that sample has a sampling error of 3-5 percent, plus or minus.

When the sample was broken down into different demographic segments, the sampling error within each segment can range from four and six percent, plus or minus.

Urban Associates was established in 1974 and has clients throughout North American and in the Caribbean and Europe. The following are the results of the poll which was conducted for The Royal Gazette by Urban Associates of Chicago.

The results show the total answers and the answers broken down by sex and race. Tomorrow, the answers broken down by age will be reported.
