Troake sets new record

Ontario University Swimming Championships last week, established a new Bermuda national record in the 50 metre backstroke with a time of 28:09 seconds.

The meet at Brock University included 16 other schools, but it was McMaster who ran away with honours for the second straight year.

Troake reached the finals in the 100 metre backstroke and dipped under the one minute mark with a time of 59:97 seconds. He also reached the finals in the 50 metre freestyle and finished fourth in a time of 23.93 seconds.

He finished fifth in the 100 metres freestyle in 52:35.

The performances have helped him qualify for the Canadian University Championships to be held in two weeks time in Ontario.
