Lions bid to fell Springboks
today's World Rugby Classic clash between the Lions and the Springboks (8.30 p.m.).
Both sides go into the game on the back of convincing wins over the USA and Canada respectively -- with the Lions 48-0 thrashing of the States in particular underlining their title winning potential.
But with several days of parties and social gatherings under their belts between then and tonight it will be interesting to see who is still at the top of their game.
Lions coach Allan Martin, a former British Lion with 34 international caps to his name, said it would be a hard game to call.
"The tournament is a difficult one to predict because of the social side. If you can survive the social side and still play good rugby and get away with not too many injuries you are in with a chance,'' he said.
The Lions escaped Monday's game pretty much unscathed on the injury front, so Martin said he hoped the line-up would hopefully be "as you were''.
Though the social aspect is always a big part of the Classic, when the sides take to the pitch those old competitive tendencies kick in.
Allan said he was expecting a hard-fought game.
"The South Africans this year seem to be a better outfit. I think the inclusion of a couple of quality players has made a difference -- especially their scrum-half and Hennie le Roux who seems to be their main playmaker. They have also got a taller more athletic looking pack,'' he said adding, "I think it will be a very good game. It will be interesting to see how it will develop.''
