The 26-year-old St. George's man is today being deported to Bermuda from Nassau in the Bahamas where he is in the custody of the local authorities, a Police spokesperson said last night.

The 175-foot Oceana , the 58th largest private motor yacht in the world, had left Ordnance Island, St. George's early on Tuesday morning and was headed for Fort Lauderdale.

The captain diverted to the Bahamas after finding the man, who jumped over board and attempted to swim away when they got to Nassau. He was captured by the authorities and the Bermuda Police Force was contacted.

Sgt. Roseanda Jones said the man was expected to appear in court this week to face charges in connection with the incident. She declined to reveal his identity.

But it is understood he is the same man who attempted to stowaway on the container ship Oleander in January in a desperate bid to get to the United States to see his parents.

He had disguised himself as a crew member and hid in a cabin. Upon being discovered when the ship arrived in New Jersey, he jumped to the pier using a makeshift line. However, he was caught by the crew.

It is understood the man is on the US stop list.
