to receive treatment at St. Brendan's Hospital when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Omar Parsons, 19, had previously admitted to detaining his family against their will and causing bodily harm to his mother and 12-year-old brother. He claimed that he had been high on marijuana at the time and suspected a member of his family of stealing money from him.

The Pembroke man had locked his mother, his younger brothers and a 13-year-old cousin in the bedroom and tortured them with a belt and a walking stick, saying he was going to murder them. The horrifying ordeal ended when Parsons' brothers escaped out of the window.

Parsons appeared in Magistrates' Court on June 9, but sentencing was adjourned pending a social inquiry report and interviews with two psychiatrists.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis ordered Parsons to be admitted to St.

Brendan's for as long as doctors thought necessary.
