Youth and Sport Minister the Hon. Pam Gordon criticised MPs for saying "nothing of any consequence'' during the record-breaking sitting.

"At the end of the day it becomes a joke,'' she told the Senate. "We should all be embarrassed by that occasion and all the unfortunate things that were said.'' Bermudians deserved better, she said.

Fellow Government member Sen. Jerome Dill attacked MP Mr. Ottiwell Simmons (PLP) for saying during the marathon session that black UBP members were "coloured folk''.

"If the PLP has members who create division within the black race by their speeches, how can they possibly be called upon to bring together black and white?'' Opposition Senate leader Sen. Alex Scott called on Sen. Dill to concentrate on things that unified the community. And Sen. Trevor Woolridge (PLP) said that if Sen. Dill felt the MP's statement was unhelpful, it was not helpful to continue to raise the matter.

Sen. Ira Philip (PLP) condemned UBP MPs for ending the House session by "sneaking'' out and "shirking'' their responsibility to debate the business of the day. Senate report -- Page 5 .
