Players to face BFA charges

Cup game at BAA field on Saturday, September 23 between North Village and Somerset will appear before the BFA's Disciplinary Committee today at 5.30 p.m.

Fighting among players and fans outside the dressing room forced officials to summon the Police who were able to prevent the flare-up from escalating into a mini riot by assisting in sorting things quickly with the game being interrupted for 20 minutes before resuming.

Because they viewed the incident to be quite serious and one that could have had a detrimental impact on Bermuda soccer, the BFA yesterday took steps by issuing a release advising the public of their concern about violence and gave the procedures of how they go about dealing with such incidents.

It is clear that the two players who ignited the initial fighting on the field of play and who were both ejected, Somerset's Paul Maybury and Village's Vernon Tankard, will be two of those to appear.

"The rules are very clear with respect to football misconduct. Failure to adhere to the rules has its consequences,'' said a BFA statement.

It also hit back at a claim by Somerset's coach Norbert Simons who said that there was no BFA executive member at the game that night. "In fact at least one representative of our executive committee, which consist of 12 members, is present at every BFA game,'' added the statement.
