The woman is apparently continuing her relationship with the man despite the case.

But Crown counsel Mr. Stephen Harrison advised the woman may not be able to drop the charges.

The victim, who cannot be identified, offered to stand bail for her boyfriend when he was charged before Cup Match.

Yesterday, defence counsel Mr. Archie Warner produced an affidavit from the complainant, saying she "clearly doesn't want to proceed''.

Mr. Harrison said: "It is not open to the complainant to decide whether to proceed or not.'' He claimed the affidavit gave rise to "concern about interference with the witness''.

Denying this Mr. Warner said the alleged victim was continuing her relationship with the accused, so a bail condition of no contact was "not practical''.

He asked that bail, which had been set at $15,000, be reduced so his client could afford it.

Mr. Harrison asked for a minimum of $7,500 in bail.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge adjourned the case for another week, and set bail at $1,500 and one surety. He said it was "unreasonable to require there be no contact''.
