Dean Wright on Arts and Sciences
typical liberal arts college, according to Dean Roy Wright who heads up the department.
"Our educational philosophy,'' said Dean Wright, "is that the opportunity for educational success and the pursuit of learning as an intrinsic value or as a stepping stone to further study, are the right and privilege of every student.'' As the centre for academic excellence in teaching and scholarship in the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences, the faculty offers four Associate Degrees - Arts, Science, Arts & Science, and Art Design.
"These programmes expose students to an array of courses in the traditional academic subjects.'' Dean Wright explained.
"Credits earned in the university level courses are used to fulfil the requirements of an associate degree and are transferable to institutions abroad, for completion of a Bachelor's Degree.'' In praise of the lecturers in his Faculty, Dean Wright noted "the teaching faculty are experienced in delivering instruction to students, pursuing academic programmes in the College, preparing to transfer abroad, upgrading for career change or undertaking professional development.'' Excited at the prospect of the College expanding to a four year programme, Dean Wright revealed that the Arts and Science department is planning "to expand its academic offerings to include four year degrees in selected areas and to furnish an environment for pursuing research in appropriate fields relevant to Bermuda and the College community.'' "Such initiatives,'' said Dean Wright, "will enhance the Faculty's image as a centre for academic excellence in Bermuda.'' Arts and Science: Dean Roy Wright of the Bermuda College.
