Sylvester was cat-apulted into the limelight after he went missing more than 10 days ago.

"Please find our Sylvester'' newspaper and television ads went out as Mr.

Deuss sounded an Island-wide alert.

But the search was called off on Wednesday night after Sylvester was found ...across the road from his home in Smith's Parish.

It was feared the long-haired Persian was seriously hurt earlier this month in a collision with a car on Harrington Sound Road, near Mr. Deuss' home.

But bar a few bruises, Sylvester was none the worse for wear.

"He's in good shape, which is a great relief,'' said Mrs. Susan White, president of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which had helped with the search.

She added one of Dutch-born Mr. Deuss' employees had discovered Sylvester.

It is believed the woman has now received a cash reward -- although Mr. Deuss has declined to disclose the amount.

"Finding Sylvester was really the result of a group effort,'' said Mrs.

White.

She hoped the Sylvester saga would be a lesson to cat lovers.

"It shows that you should never give up the search if your cat goes missing.

"Cats often go away for days at a time and return as if nothing had happened.'' Yesterday Mr. Deuss could not be reached for comment.

His fiancee, Miss Suzanne Ericsson, said: "Sylvester has been eating and sleeping. He is a bit sore, but otherwise fine.'' She confirmed a reward had been paid out, but added: "The lady doesn't want any publicity.''
