Costly Cup Match celebration
while intoxicated over the Cup Match holiday this year.
Lionel Godfrey, 39, pleaded guilty to the offence in Magistrate's Court.
Police on patrol in Devonshire saw Godfrey sitting in a parked car at about 2.20 a.m. on July 31, said Police Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting.
As they watched, Godfrey started up the car and drove off along Orange Valley Road. Police noted his driving was erratic.
When Godfrey reached the junction of Palmetto Road and Parsons Road, he pulled the car over to the left, narrowly avoiding collision with the centre island, said Insp. Duffy.
Police stopped Godfrey, and noted he was showing signs of drunkenness. He was arrested and taken to the Police station, where he gave two samples of breath.
The reading was 199 mg of alcohol to 100 ml of blood, nearly twice the legal limit.
Miss Charles-Etta Simmons, Godfrey's lawyer, said Godfrey had no record, and he had been pushed over the legal limit when he stopped at a friend's house for a Cup Match celebration.
Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge imposed the fine and driving disqualification.
