Woolridge to chair new cricket committee

named as chairman of a committee formed by Bermuda Cricket Board of Control to look into the restructuring of local cricket.

He was one of two people outside the cricket administration fraternity who were surprisingly named by the Board -- the other being former Police Commissioner Lennett Edwards who was an active cricket administrator during the 1970s and '80s.

Although there has been no confirmation of the appointments by the Board, it is understood that the entire scheduling committee is included on the new committee which will therefore likely be made up of: Jim Woolridge (chairman), Lennett Edwards, Rudolph Lawrence, Neil Speight, Dennis Archer, Arnold Manders, Allan Douglas and Wendell Smith.

In August when BCBC president Ed Bailey announced that a committee would be formed to look into restructuring of the sport, a member of the cricket umpires' association publically stated the importance of having one its members included. That advice, however, appears to have been ignored.

Bailey was off the Island yesterday and BCBC vice president Rudolph Lawrence could not be reached for comment.
