Rangers stunned by late goals

Devonshire Colts clinched a dramatic victory at Somerset last night as a late error by former Colts goalkeeper Randy Darrell helped send Rangers to their first loss of the season.

Rangers looked set for a fourth straight win in the league when Ryan Belboda's header from a Jason Raynor corner put them in front in the 18th minute. it was a half dominated by the joint First Division leaders.

However, things changed in the second half as Colts got an equaliser in the 87th minute through Keimon Lawrence before Ellington Weldon scored a dramatic winner two minutes into stoppage time.

The match was only 25 seconds old when Rangers thought they had found the net as Ascento Russell's downward header at the far post came desperately close to crossing the line before goalkeeper Troy Hall pushed it out.

The best of the chances after that fell to Rangers as Russell went close with a left footer minutes later and then midfielder Kwame Tucker shot wide.

After Rangers took a deserved lead, referee George O'Brien was kept busy with a couple of quick bookings as Shannon Burgess was shown the yellow card for a wild tackle on Janeiro Tucker and then Kwame Tucker was cautioned for a foul on Aljame Zuill.

Colts' best effort of the half did not come until the 40th minute when Keishon Smith went close with a header. Then Anthony Wilson had his name taken for a foul on Janeiro as the half came to a close.

Colts had their defence of Burgess, McKonnen Hollis, Keimon Burchall and Anthony Wilson to thank for not trailing by a bigger margin at the half.

And when the second half began they were noticeably more determined in midfield and attack as Rangers were not allowed to control things like their did in the first half. Now it was their turn to defend for long periods as Colts kept on the pressure.

A couple of substitutions by Colts proved the key as Jermaine Belboda for Zuill and Tajmal Webb for Keishon Smith brought some aggression to their attack.

Rangers dropped an extra man into midfield in a bid to hold onto at least a point, but the loss of loss of Janeiro Tucker to an injury late in the game robbed them of a key man as both Colts goals came after he limped off.

With Weldon and Lawrence stepping it up, Colts were causing the Rangers defence some problems.

After Belboda shot just wide and Weldon put an effort over the top, the goal that had been eluding Colts all night finally came in the 87th minute. Burgess flighted the ball into the box and when Darrell came out and allowed the ball to go through his hands, Lawrence was there to drive in from close range.

And that never-say-die attitude by Colts brought them further reward when Weldon scored in injury time with a volley from the edge of the box that beat the diving Darrell.

Now instead of leading the standings by three points overnight, Rangers could lose further ground after this weekend's matches, while for Colts this was their second come-from-behind win of the season.
