Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said Police were called to a house on Town Hill after 4 p.m.

When they arrived they found a 34-year-old Devonshire man bleeding "profusely'' from wounds to his face and head.

Mrs. James Barnett said the wounds were apparently the result of an argument that he had with a 43-year-old Pembroke man.

The assailant was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station while the Devonshire man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to lacerations to the left side of his head, scratches to the left side of his face and a cut to his left thumb.

Police inquiries were continuing.
