Son stole cash from father
no longer welcome in the family home, Magistrates' Court heard this week.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Richard M. Dill was allowed by his father, Frederick Brangman, to sleep at home on January 7. But Mr. Brangman caught his son taking $450 from his wallet and trouser pockets.
Dill told Police he had been drinking heavily and wanted the money to buy drugs, said Insp. Duffy. Dill's father had decided to bring the matter to court in an attempt to help his son.
Another offence occurred last Wednesday, said Insp. Duffy. Dill arrived at home around 1 a.m. but was not allowed into the house. He lost his temper and caused $228 worth of damage to a motorbike belonging to his sister Latosha Dill.
Richard Dill had a serious problem with abuse of alcohol and other substances, and was on probation, the court heard.
Dill, unemployed, of Hog Bay Level, Sandys, admitted stealing the money and damaging the bike. Senior magistrate the Wor. Will Francis told him: "You are unable to keep off drink and you admit that you want this money to go and buy drugs, so you are in a lot of trouble. Your family doesn't seem to want you to stay with them so I am remanding you in custody for two weeks for a social inquiry report.'' "They don't like me when I've been drinking,'' Dill told Mr. Francis.
