The man quickly exited and took the woman's green leather backpack. The backpack contained an undisclosed quantity of cash, passports, airline tickets, credit cards and other personal items.

A sports club at Astor House on Union Street was also targeted by thieves.

Police said someone stole several boxes of liquor from a storeroom in the club on Wednesday night.

Finance Minister Grant Gibbons yesterday announced that the maximum prices of fuel had increased as follows: Gasoline up by $1.2 cents per litre; diesel by .3 cents per litre; and kerosene up by $.4 cents per litre. As a consequence, the maximum retail prices displayed at the pumps will be $1.15.8 per litre for gasoline; diesel $.88.5 cents per litre for diesel; and $.67.7 per litre for kerosene.

THIEF TARGETS WOMAN LEAVING RESTAURANT CRM Thief targets woman leaving restaurant Police reported that a local woman had her handbag stolen as she was leaving a restaurant.

The woman told Police she was leaving Landfall Restaurant on North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish around noon on Thursday when a man approached her and pulled her handbag off her shoulder. The man -- described as clean shaven, with a close haircut and about six feet tall -- escaped on a waiting auxiliary cycle in an easterly direction.

The handbag contained an undisclosed quantity of cash and other personal items.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULT IN ST. GEORGE'S CRM Man arrested after assault in St. George's One person suffered minor slash marks in an assault in St. George's recently.

Police were called to a residence on Smith's Hill Road last week after reports of a man allegedly threatening family members. One man was arrested and was due to appear in court.
