Key stage of season for Vasco, St. George's
an important match at Wellington Oval tomorrow.
Last season St. George's met Somerset in four matches, winning one league match while losing the corresponding fixture as well as Friendship and FA Cup ties to the west enders.
This season the team standing between them and success could be promoted Vasco, who have already knocked them out of the FA Cup, after losing their opening league enounter to St. George's, both by 1-0 scores.
Tomorrow round three takes place at Wellington Oval when the two mid-table teams seek to improve on their league positions, and on Tuesday night they will be at it again when both travel to Somerset to decide who goes through to meet Dandy Town in the Friendship Trophy final.
While there is some chance of cup glory for both teams the threat of relegation still looms with both badly needing a good result this weekend.
After this match with Vasco, St. George's will have played all of the teams below them a second time, leaving them to meet the likes of Dandy Town, Boulevard, Devonshire Colts and Somerset in their remaining matches.
Resurging Zebras will be looking to put a spanner in the championship drive of a team for the second straight weekend when they entertain fourth-placed Devonshire Colts.
Last weekend Boulevard were hurt by two late goals from PHC and though the Zebras went down to Dandy Town in extra time in the Friendship semifinal in midweek, they are starting to show the character that makes opposing teams wary.
Relegation threatened Rangers face the most on-form team in Dandy Town, desperate for points to keep close to the teams immediately in front of them.
However, they will have to do it without top scorer Shawn Simons, who scored both goals when Rangers beat Town in their first meeting.
Simons came on as a sub last weekend in his first match back from a three match suspension and got a booking which took him past the maximum 30 points which means he will now have to sit out another two matches.
Another equally interesting match will be at Bernard Park where leaders North Village, who still lead the standings by goal difference over Town, entertain mid-table Somerset.
The Trojans are still struggling to find their form but five points from a maximum eight in their last three games has at boosted their hopes of qualifying for next year's Martonmere Cup.
Tomorrow's other match in the First Division sees St. David's playing hosts to their tenants, Boulevard. A loss would virtually doom the Islands who are presently three points adrift of Rangers in front of them with just four matches remaining after this weekend.
Also expected to be decided before long before the season ends is the first promotion spot. Unbeaten Devonshire Cougars lead Wolves and BAA by three points with two games in hand over Wolves and one game over BAA, leaving those teams to battle for the second spot.
Tomorrow Cougars are at home to Port Royal while Wolves travel east to meet Hamilton Parish, fourth, and BAA entertain Social Club at BAA field. The other match sees Prospect taking on Paget at Police Field.
