Brett chasing another road win
Brett Forgesson's obvious haste to rebound with a vengeance in the new road running shifts into mode two when he leads a formidable field in the Romanoff Timeless 5K on Sunday.
After slackening off his road racing programme somewhat a year ago, Forgesson showed that he is taking the new season more seriously by winning the Labour Day Five Miler--the first road race of the season--in 27 minutes and 12 seconds, finishing ahead of second place Kevin Tucker (28:32) by a comfortable margin. Ronue Cann was four seconds back in third.
In addition to trying to get the upperhand against what should be several strong opponents, Forgesson will be aiming to improve on last year's finish of 16:50 when he was beaten by Jay Donawa (15:51) who is at school in California and therefore missing from the starting line.
Last year's race also saw good performances by Sheldon Thompson who was third a year ago in (16.51), Tracy Wright fourth (16:54), Jeremy Ball fifth (17:38) and Calvert Lee sixth (17:42).
Lee also finished sixth in the Labour Day race in 29.59 while Thompson, Wright and Ball did not run.
Jane Christie is the favourite in the women's division with last year's top finishers Jennifer Fisher (19:10) not entered and Anna Eatherley (19:27) doubtful.
Christie finished second to Marina Jones in the Labour Day race, Christie running a time of 34:11 and Jones 33:05. Jones is at school in Canada.
The race, which is being organised by MAAC, starts outside Romanoff Restaurant on Church Street at 5p.m. and will take the runners east on Church Street, turning south on to Court Street to the Front Street junction.
The runners then go west on Front Street and on to Pitts Bay Road where they will continue towards Cox's Hill, turning right on to St. John's Road and heading east until the junction with Woodlands Road.
They then travel through the junction with Serpentine Road and on to Church Street before tuning left and finishing outside Romanoff.
