Berkeley holds centenary concert
The celebration, which will take place in Victoria Park on June 15, will offer musical performances from Berkeleyites.
It is scheduled to last an hour and a half and will be hosted by the Berkeley Centenary Committee as a tribute to all fathers.
The Band and Corps of Drums of the Bermuda Regiment will be performing under the direction of Maj. Barrett Dill and will play a variation of both classical and popular music.
Other performers will include St. Paul AME Church's Senior Choir and soloist Vernelda Perinchief, a Berkeley student.
Wendell (Shine) Hayward will also be making a guest appearance.
Corporation of Hamilton Secretary Roger Sherratt pointed out that "Berkeley has a strong association with Hamilton''.
The Berkeley Education Society held its first meeting at the Samaritans' Lodge on Court Street, he said.
Mr. Sherratt also recalled that one of the founders of Berkeley, Samuel David Robinson, was the first black member of the Corporation of Hamilton.
"The Corporation is absolutely delighted to have this event in Hamilton,'' he added.
The free concert will begin at 5 p.m.
