Marksman Beach gunning for goals cash

Goal machine Raymond Beach

Sharp shooter Raymond Beach remains on target to score 35 goals this season and pocket $1,000 in prize money on offer.

The prolific Dandy Town striker has scored 20 goals in all competition so far this season and tops the Premier Division scoring charts with 13.

"Personally, I hope Raymond can score 42 goals this season," said Western Stars Sports Club (WSSC) president Nathan Richardson.

"It's been quite some time since a Premier Division player has scored that amount of goals, but I hope Raymond can change all of that.

"He is a team player who demands the respect of our opponents.

"We are just happy to have a player of Raymond's calibre in our team."

Long considered as one of the top poachers on the Island, Beach has banged in seven goals in his last six appearances for newly crowned Dudley Eve champions and current Premier Division leaders Hornets.

Beach's goal-scoring prowess earned him cult status during a playing stint at Devonshire Cougars where he formed a lethal partnership with attacking midfielder Heys Wolfe who has also returned to his roots at St. John's Field.

At the beginning of the season ex-Somerset Trojan and Bermuda winger, Coolridge (Bumla) Bell, offered to pay out $1,000 in cold cash to any Premier Division player who can bag 35 goals in all competitions – a feat that was last achieved by current PHC Zebras coach Kyle Lightbourne in 1991-92.

"It's a really good incentive for our strikers to go after," said Bell, who scored 35 goals for Trojans in 1978-79.

"I have scored 35 goals before, and so there's no reason why it cannot be achieved again."

In order to pocket the prize earnings Beach will have to score another 15 goals during Town's remaining five league matches against PHC, Devonshire Colts, North Village and Southampton Rangers.

Hornets will also take on Village in the FA Cup February 22 at Bernard Park hopeful of keeping their cup hopes alive that could work in Beach's favour as he bids to make Bell put his money where his mouth his.

n Alfred Eve and Ellsworth Christopher have been appointed Honourary vice-presidents of Bermuda Football Association (BFA).

Eve, son of late BFA administrator Dudley, cut his teeth at youth level with Young Men's Social Club and also represented Western Stars in the cricket arena. He also coached at Social Club but is perhaps best remembered for the success he enjoyed as coach of PHC Zebras where he started out as Leroy Nibs Lewis' deputy.

Eve also served as a cricket administrator with the now defunct Somers Isle Cricket League (SICL).

Over the past four decades former Devonshire Recreation Club (DRC) executive Christopher has served as an administrator in the Island's two national sports, cricket and football.

He is a past vice-president of Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) and the SICL and was influential in the amalgamation of Pond Hill Stars, Devonshire Recreation Club and Pembroke Juniors to form what is today known as the Devonshire Cougars
