Top clubs must do or do without
Green sections as the top clubs all prepare to do without national team players who left last night for a two-week tour of England.
Devonshire Rec. will be the least affected of the top clubs as only attack bowler Anthony Edwards will be missing from tomorrow's home match against Willow Cuts.
However, Bailey's Bay, Hamilton Parish and Western Stars will all be hard-pressed to hang on to their perfect record in the next two weeks without key players.
In another Gold match, Somerset meet Hamilton Parish for the second straight week. Last weekend the two teams produced the first tie of the season but this time Somerset should be favoured over a Parish team that will be without captain Ricky Hill and pace bowler Terry Burgess. Corey Hill is back from college and should play his first match of the season.
Bailey's Bay, the third team in the Gold section with a perfect record from three matches, have an easier away match against Social Club. They should be favoured even though they will be without in-form batsman Charlie Marshall and all-rounder Noel Gibbons who is set to pursue a professional contract with a minor league club Halesowen at the end of the England tour.
In the other Gold match, Nationals will be without their captain Darrin Lewis for their home match against Flatts as Mark Ray leads the team in his absence.
Three teams also have perfect records in the Green Division with Police, St.
David's and Western Stars all looking to make it four wins in a row.
Former league champions St. George's will be without four internationals, captain Wendell Smith, Dean Minors, Clay Smith and Kenny Phillips, for their trip to St. John's field to take on Western Stars.
Stars have their own problems with Arnold Manders, Gary Brangman and Jeff Richardson on the England tour, Gregory Sampson out for four weeks with a broken wrist, and Roger Leverock suffering from an ankle injury.
Unbeaten St. David's will welcome the return of the limited overs game though they will not be too happy about their third trip of the season to Sea Breeze Oval to meet Cleveland for the second time. In their previous visits there the Islanders were dismissed for under 100 each time by Cleveland and Bailey's Bay.
The other matches see unbeaten Police taking on Warwick and Southampton Rangers taking on Somerset Bridge at Southampton Oval.
