West End soon to have ambulance

Mr. David Dodwell (UBP) made the announcement in the House of Assembly during debate on the 1995-96 estimates of the Ministry of Management Services, which has been conducting a study of the Bermuda Fire Service.

Mr. Dodwell said the ambulance, which will be located at the Port Royal Fire Station, will be operated by Bermuda Fire Service personnel with paramedic training, rather than by hospital staff.

Until now, calls to the West End have been answered by an ambulance from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Paget.

"I think it's a very positive move, and I would like to congratulate the Government for taking this measure,'' said Mr. Dodwell, who represents Southampton West.

During the Motion to Adjourn, Mr. Walter Lister (PLP) said he was "very happy too hear an ambulance will be made available in the very near future.'' People in the West End had been asking for an ambulance for years, said Mr.

Lister, who represents Sandys South.

"It only demonstrates that if you believe in something, and if you fight for it long enough, you will get it.''
