the Causeway was finally approved in principle this week.

One of the conditions of final approval was the provision of details of the onshore facilities for marina patrons and the portable pump-out system for boats' sewage.

Other conditions included the creation of an access driveway not less than 12 feet wide and parking for 14 additional cars.

The DAB recommended the finger pier joining the boat berths to the dock should be made of wood or concrete piles.

The DAB rejected the hotel's first application in 1991, proposing a 60-berth marina.

It deferred the second application in September, which was a scaled down version of the first. It ordered the application to be advertised.

Hotel shareholder Mr. Ralph Terceira has said the marina would not interfere with beach-goers.

It would only be for hotel guests arriving in Bermuda by yacht and local boaters dining at the hotel.

"There are certain times of the year when there are a number of visiting yachts in Bermuda and their owners and crew really have no place to go and still be near their yachts other than the Hamilton Princess Hotel,'' Mr.

Terceira said. "It would also be for locals who want to tie up alongside the hotel and have dinner.''
