Man fined $400 for obstructing police
Walter Otis Bell, of Green Acres, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to obstructing Police carrying out their duties under the Misuse of Drugs Act on August 2.
Police patrolling an area near Elliott and Princess Streets around 1.30 a.m.
that day saw a drug transaction taking place, prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said.
As Police approached the men, Bell ran away and threw something onto the ground, he added.
Police pursued Bell along Elliott Street and onto the playground on Court Street. But nothing was found.
Bell, the court heard, had two similar obstruction convictions.
"If the Police deal with you again, don't run away,'' Magistrate the Wor.
John Judge told Bell, "because if you were to come back for this offence for the fourth time, I don't think a fine will deal with it.''
