North Village 2 Dandy Town 3

A curling left-footed Heys Wolfe free kick 15 minutes from full-time saw the Charity Cup take up a new residence for the first time in five years at BAA Field on Saturday night.

The prodigal son, who climbed through the youth ranks at St.John?s Road before venturing off to Devonshire Cougars for several seasons, marked a triumphant return in a Town jersey, wearing the captain?s armband.

Twice Wolfe came close to undoing the Reds? defence before finally delivering the coup de grace to give Hornets a fourth overall Charity Cup win in their sixth appearance in the final, and first since 2001-02.

?This one was for charity tonight, and we?re going to enjoy this victory,? Wolfe told The Royal Gazette afterwards.

McLee Smith, another returning Town player, jumped off the bench and cancelled Village?s 2-1 lead in the 72nd minute with a free header from point blank range minutes after another effort had hit the upright.

Debutant Sekai Waldron volleyed Hornets ahead 30 minutes into the first half with a crisp shot from the top of the 18-yard box that found its mark through an obscured Reds? defence.

Yet before Hornets? celebrations had subsided they found themselves trailing thanks to two superbly taken Ralph Bean jr goals inside two pulsating minutes of football.

But in the end it was Smith?s and Wolfe?s clinical finishing down the stretch that turned the tide, and prised the cup away from Bernard Park for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

Hornets? win also denied Village the distinction of becoming the first club to win the showpiece five times on the trot.

?I thought the players took a big step tonight and this was a fresh start for them both mentally and physically,? said victorious Hornets? coach Devarr Boyles.

?First half we played in spurts, but I thought in the second half we played with a bit more confidence.?

Boyles? opposite number, Dwayne Adams, conceded Town were the better team on the night.

?Dandy Town came out and kept the pressure on,? he said. ?And in the end they were the ones who came out on top.?

Neither team really stamped their authority on a match evenly contested for the most part. But once Village playmaker Tafari Outerbridge limped off injured midway through the second half, gradually the Reds began to run out of ideas allowing Town ? growing in confidence with each attacking foray ? to move in for the kill.

After Wolfe controlled and shot over from inside the box and Chris Anderson dragged a shot wide, Waldron celebrated his arrival and opened his account with a firmly struck volley that cut a path to goal in heavy traffic.

Yet Town found themselves trailing shortly after when their defence was twice exposed, allowing the opportunistic Bean to cash in.

Bean drew the teams level in the 38th minute by tapping in Tarik Jennings? cross. And before the nimble striker had ample time to catch his breath he was off again, celebrating his and Village?s second.

A poor clearance was nodded on by the diminutive Shayne Hollis ? a thorn in Hornets? side all night ? into the path of the onrushing Bean who buried a shot from outside the 18-yard box past the anchored Cymande Davis to earn his team the lead at the half.

Town, though, gained the upper hand when play resumed, and should have at least been back on even terms.

Twice in position to score, Lashun Dill ballooned his efforts high and wide ? much to the chagrin of his team-mates.

But fate finally intervened when Outerbridge ? the Reds? main artery in midfield ? limped off with a groin injury. And with his departure also went Village?s hopes.

Town coach Boyles then made the bold move to insert three subs at the same time ? among them Smith.

And the tactic soon paid dividends as the burly striker headed Hornets back into contention with a soft goal at the near post that somehow squeezed between ?keeper Zane Hendrickson and the woodwork.

?I?m glad to be back, and this is just the beginning,? Smith said afterwards, delighted to be reunited with his former team-mates.

Wolfe then delivered the crushing blow with a curling free kick outside the 18-yard box that took a slight deflection before beating Hendrickson again at the near post.

And with each team allowed five substitutions, Boyles continued to use the opportunity to showcase Town?s newly acquired depth, late second half sub Jecoa Tucker nearly adding to their lead in the dying minutes with another curling effort that rattled the woodwork ? and the hearts of Village fans.

Lady Cougars 7 Lady Rams 0

Inspired by the prolific boot of Naquita Dill who bagged a hat-trick, Lady Cougars romped to a emphatic win over Lady Rams to successfully defend their Women?s Charity Cup at BAA Field.

Cougars grabbed the lead for good in the 18th minute, courtesy of an Arkeita Smith strike, and from that moment on never took their foot off the throttle.

Dill then made her presence felt, netting the first of her superb treble, to give her team a two-goal cushion at the half.

Eleven minutes into the second-half veteran striker, and Bermuda national team cricketer Chevonne Furbert extended the match even further beyond Rams? reach with a headed effort from a Dill cross in the box.

Dill then netted twice inside of three minutes to make it 5-0 and complete her hat-trick.

Rams? night then went from bad to worse when Nicole Carvalho netted an own goal and then Ashley Wall scored to send Lady Cougars into seventh heaven nine minutes from full-time.
