Teenager drowns off the N. Shore
Police reported.
Despite mouth-to-mouth resuscitation efforts, 19-year-old Mr. Calvin Douglas of Fruitland Lane, Pembroke, was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Mr. David Card, who lives near the Stepney Lane dock the teenager dove off, said he saw him dive into the water nude at about 9.30 a.m.
Mr. Card, who had been putting out some trash, said he watched the teenager swim out quite a way and dive underwater. But when he failed to come back up he knew something was wrong.
He said he ran up to his house and shouted for his wife to call 911, then went back and dove in to try to find the boy.
Mr. Card estimated he had been underwater some 15 minutes. He said he was unconscious when he found him but had no visible injuries. By that time the Police had arrived and helped get the boy to the dock.
He said he did not know what might have caused the boy to drown. A report will be sent to the Coroner's office.
