Campaign chief resigns

United Bermuda Party campaign chairman because he wants to avoid any potential for a conflict of interest.

Dr. King was one of three people on that committee. However as president of Telco -- a virulent opponent of Government's decision to open up the domestic market to competition -- he decided that there could be the perception of a conflict of interest.

"He just feels that he, on behalf of the Telephone Company will basically be taking some action and he just thought that there would be a conflict,'' Premier David Saul said yesterday. "So at this time he stepped down. That is probably the honourable thing to do.'' When reached at his home last night, Dr. King said:"I am sorry. To take it upon yourself to call and disturb me at this hour of a Sunday night, I do not regard in any kind fashion. Thank you.''
