This was mainly due to 105,715 Bank of Bermuda shares traded, and rising $2.00 or 4.65 percent to close at $45.00 after the announcement that its 6 0/40 exemption had been granted.

The ripples of the licence granted spread to Bank of Butterfield, whose stock rose $2.25 or 10 percent to close at $24.75 and Bermuda Commercial Bank, which saw stock up 12 percent or 75 cents to $7.00.

Long Botham Boats fell 25 cents to $4.00. Bermuda Press Holdings, owners of The Royal Gazette , saw stock rise 25 cents to $7.00, and Island Press, owners of the Bermuda Sun saw stock rise $1.50 to $4.50. Island Press' preferential shares also went down by 20 cents to $4.30.

BELCO saw stocks rise by $2.50 to $22.60, and KeyTech saw stock fall by $1.00 to $36.00.

The index traded 200,029 shares worth $6,753,104.65 during the week.
