A `two plus two' institution

pursuing either a two, or a four-year degree. "We think of Mount Ida College as being unique,'' explained admissions officer Marie Kaden. "We describe it as a `two plus two institution' as it allows students to get an Associate's Degree at the end of two years after which they can continue on working towards a Bachelor's degree in two more years. So they are free to work after their Associate's degree but have the option to carry on. So Mount Ida College is a little unique in its structure.'' Located in Newton, Massachusetts, Mount Ida College sits just 8 miles west of Boston, said Ms Kaden. The school's wide course range -- 37 Associate degrees and 20 Bachelor's degrees, makes it attractive to many. "We have eight different schools within the college -- Animal Science, Business, the Chamberlain School of Design and Merchandising, the Coin School of Technical Electricity, the School of Education, the new England Institute for Funeral Services, the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Science and Allied Health, so we offer a tremendous variety of programmes and the programmes are varied. We have an 85-acre suburban campus with residences on site, and we're also only eight miles from Boston, which makes us attractive to students.'' The College/University Fair is a wonderful opportunity for students to discover where they might want to further their education, added Ms Kaden. "We have had students from Bermuda and have had a wonderful relationship with the Island over the years,'' she said. "I think the College/University Fair is a real service to students as it gives them the opportunity to meet representatives on a one-to-one basis. It's hard to travel to all of the many schools that are out there. It's time consuming and it's expensive. "This way, they have access to many schools and they can talk directly to the various representatives. I think it's a valuable service to the students. It makes them aware of colleges and universities they had never even heard of before. I think of real value to them and to us. We enjoy meeting and chatting with them and their families -- and families are very important in helping make that college choice.'' COLLEGE--UNIVERSITY FAIR MINI SUPPLEMENT SUP
