Marshall and Murray make Bermuda suffer -- Red Striped Bowl
four wickets, after Junior Murray had slammed his first regional one-day century, to power the Windward Islands to a comfortable 105-run victory over Bermuda in their Group B Red Stripe Bowl match at the Ronald Webster Park on Saturday.
Replying to the Windwards Islands' tally of 252 for five off their allotted 50 overs, Bermuda were dismissed for 147 in the 44th over. The experienced Marshall bowled with good control to earn four for 28 from his 10-over spell.
Marshall was ably supported by West Indies pacer Nixon McLean who captured two wickets for 23 runs, while there was a wicket apiece for pacers Cameron Cuffy and McNeil Morgan along with legspinner Rawl Lewis.
Left-handed middle-order batsman Richard Basden led the way for Bermuda, hitting a solid, unbeaten 44, mixing defence and aggression against the steady Windward Islands' bowling attack.
But apart from Basden, only opener Wendell White (24), Clay Smith (18), and fast bowler Herbie Bascome with a quickfire 17, made any worthwhile contributions.
Earlier, former West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Junior Murray slammed his maiden regional one-day century at better than a run a ball.
Murray, who finished with an even, unbeaten ton, featured in fine half-century partnerships with John Eugene (63) and Roy Marshall (31) after the Windwards were sent in to bat by their opponents.
Murray, who was dropped twice, brought up his three-figure landmark after just 98 balls, slamming two sixes and nine fours. He put on 97 with Eugene for the fourth wicket and 88 with Marshall for the fifth.
Eugene batted impressively to register 63 before giving a simple return catch to slow medium pace bowler Dennis Archer who captured his two wickets for 48 runs from seven overs.
Archer was Bermuda's most successful bowler, but left-arm slow bowler Hasan Durham was the most economical, conceding just 18 runs from his 10 overs.
