while a power line is extended to the Tynes Bay incinerator.

The closure could begin next month, said Mr. Stephen Hunt, resident engineer for the incinerator. It would affect through traffic in both directions between Parsons Lane and North Shore Road.

It is expected local access will be maintained from one of the two ends so motorists can reach Ocean View Golf Club.

Although the incinerator would produce more electricity than the plant needed once it was up and running, a high-voltage power line was needed for start-ups, Mr. Hunt said.

A trench for the power line would be dug along Barker's Hill. Because the road was narrow, both lanes of traffic would have to be closed.
