Residents living near the dump claim the nauseous odours have been worse than ever recently. And Government blamed the stench on the fact that there was little rubble to cover the rotten trash being dumped there.

But Island Construction company have now started trucking clay rubble to the area in a joint effort with the Ministry of Works and Engineering.

"This joint venture has materialised as the Government makes every attempt to address the chronic rubble shortage that currently exists,'' a Ministry of Works and Engineering spokesman said.

"Currently dumping is being carried out on the problematic Eastern slope of the Marsh Folly site.

"This covering is expected to assist in minimising the smell which tends to emanate from the dump.'' The spokesman added that it was anticipated that the process would also help in attempts to reduce and control the number of flies and rodents at the site.

Other sources, according to the Ministry, have also agreed to supply rubble.

Efforts, added the spokesman, were continually being made to minimise the problems facing residents around the dump. And the Ministry encouraged residents and businesses to assist in their efforts by disposing of unwanted rubble at the Marsh Folly site.
