Girl injured by rider who left scene

A 12-year-old girl was treated in hospital yesterday after being struck in Sandys by an electric pedal cycle rider who fled the scene.

Police said the girl was hit at about 5.25pm on Clyde Best Lane, near the junction with Cricket Lane, by “a black male on a black electric pedal cycle” travelling in the same direction.

The rider, believed to be in his 30s, was also hurt, but left with the help of another male on a motorcycle.

A third male then arrived and removed the cycle, fleeing on foot towards the former Arnold’s supermarket.

The victim’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. Witnesses were urged to call the main police number at 295-0011.
