The officer, who has not been named, was found outside the Governor of Bermuda's residence after daubing a religious slogan on a wall with fruit.

Sources informed The Royal Gazette that reports that the man had used paint to write the slogan were misleading, stating that a plum-type of fruit was used.

It is believed that after a short search the man was found on his knees saying prayers. He was found by an employee of Government House and not by the Governor Lord Waddington as some reports have stated.

The officer, a Bermudian, has been transferred to another department of the force.

Police Community Relations Officer P.c. Gary Venning said: "Police can confirm that there was an incident at Government House. The matter has been dealt with internally and we do not wish to make any further comment.''
