develop an academic programme for local Police Constable trainees.

The curriculum's development is part of an overall push to encourage local school leavers to consider careers in the Force, according to Public Safety Minister Quinton Edness.

"We want to have a situation where we have a continuous stream of young Bermudians ready to join the Police Force,'' Mr. Edness said.

"People who want to become Constables need to achieve a certain academic standard and this programme will help them reach that. There are other benefits as well.'' According to Mr. Edness, the present scheme for recruiting local Police needs some support, "and we're very grateful to the College for their help,'' he said.

Once this programme is in place it will be available to school leavers considering a career in the Police, and will also be beneficial to students who have not decided on a career. The type of curriculum available will be slanted toward the needs of Policemen, but will cover areas useful in any line of work.

"We want a situation where students leaving high school will be able to sign up for the programme.''
