The 31-year-old man who spoke to the The Royal Gazette on condition of anonymity, said he was arrested on charges of breaching the peace and using offensive words after an argument with another man on Sound View Road, Sandys.

Police however, are refusing to comment on the investigation other than to say it is being "actively investigated''.

The man said he had been doing some work around his house and was taking two of his work crew home around 11 p.m. when the incident took place.

He said after stopping on Sound View Road he became involved in an argument with another man who said they were making too much noise.

"He had a pipe which he used on the two boys, but he quickly threw it away when the Police came. I tried to explain to them what really happened.

"They asked me to come with them and I refused. One of the officers thought I made a rude remark about his mother, and he came and pulled me out of the truck and handcuffed me.'' After he was arrested and taken to the Somerset Police Station, the man said he was stripped and searched.

During this period he became embroiled in a shouting match with P.c. Timothy Evelyn whom he alleges punched him on the left side of his rib cage.

"I picked up the receiving end of the telephone to protect myself. At this time P.c. Tory Robinson jumped in and began beating me.

"I was knocked to the floor and they punched and kicked me in my back and chest.'' Later that evening the man said he received a visit from Sgt. Michael Phillips who came to talk to him about the incident.

"I was standing up when he came in and he ordered me to sit down in a very disrespectful manner, so I refused and he struck me and I fell.

"He told me I was lucky that's all I got.'' "I have heard people complain about Police brutality but until this experience I never would have believed this could happen.'' The man, who was treated by Dr. Roderick Moore, made a formal complaint about the incident to Police last week.

Police refused to divulge any details when contacted by The Royal Gazette .
